I am an ex-pat living in Guangzhou, China. I am married to the man of my dreams who has indulged my love of travel by working hard enough to snag two international assignments. Oh yes, I also have two amazing children who accompanied us on our first one to Switzerland and are now mature and responsible adults which makes it so easy for us to experience this adventure as empty-nesters. Experience it vicariously with Karen.

  1. Hi,

Just wanted to leave a note to say that I stumbled upon your blog while looking around for Guangzhou expat things to read. I am also an expat living in Guangzhou, accompanying my wife for her job here in Guangzhou. We’ve been here since… mid-September. I just wanted to say that your blog has been a very interesting/fun read and keep up the good work. I myself have a blog detailing my days as a house husband here as well as the food of Guangzhou. Just for fun and not too serious. Feel free to check it out. http://rhhog.tumblr.com/

Anyways, hope you and your husband continue to have a wonderful time in Guangzhou.

  2. Wow Karen, I love your blog! Your writing is so interesting and engaging and the look and vibe of the site is perfect. Good luck on both your China and blogging adventures and be certain that I will be following closely and living vikarenously through what you share with us.

    • Thanks Kurt, I’m glad you like it. I have to tell you that Andrew had such a good time with you and Willis. Thanks for both putting him up and putting up with him. I never think of Willis that I don’t think of the time he spent with us in Geneva. It was so much fun to take them around and play tour guide. I never tired of going to the same places over and over. I’m sure it’ll be the same here and this time I don’t have to do any of the driving. I know that everyone is quite jealous about the driver but let me tell you, you give up some freedom. It will be interesting to see how I feel
three (?) years from now when it’s time to leave. I know that Anders is loving it because he can get work done. He has to go the plant today and it’s about an hour outside the city. He’ll be able to use the time effectively while Ben takes care of getting him there. Thanks for following along and take care.

  3. The Swiss experience was life-changing and unforgettable…hope this one is equally as awesome!! Although of course it could never be AS awesome because Andrew and I won’t be there, of course. 😉
